The Formula 1, ceramic and steel

No other watch manufacture was to supply as many road races in the world with watches as TAG Heuer from La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland. From 1992 to 2003 the Formula 1 was entirely and exclusively provided with timing devices by TAG Heuer. To this day Ferrari and McLaren Mercedes still rely on instruments of the manufacture which was found more than 150 ago and literally made road racing history. For being the first to introduce a stop watch function TAG Heuer was granted a patent as early as in 1882. Further refinement and elaboration in 1916 eventually enabled watches to an exactness at a hundredth of a second level. In making the most of modern material and technology TAG Heuer’s chronograph collection Formula 1 has apparently taken the racing idea of always being a step ahead rather literally.

Der Formula 1 Rennstall

The Tag Heuer Chronograph consists of different variants. Caliber 16 competes several quartz movements of Swiss manufacturing. Among the 24 models in total, the Formula 1 Indy 500 stands out for its single but specifically splendid version. Housed in a case of fine-brushed stainless steel the anthracite colored dial is enhanced by a “sunray” effect, racing red Indy 500 engraving and a red chronograph central seconds hand. Furthermore a printed black checkered pattern with two red stripes represent the cobblestone pavement and finish line of Indianapolis. Other models of the Formula 1 are available in titanium carbide as well as ceramic and presented on plain black rubber straps or stainless steel bracelets. The well-established loves the well-defined. TAG Heuer proves its privilege position as beside the racing and showbiz prominence even the acting President of the United States, Barack Obama calls a TAG Heuer 1500 Series his own.
