Baume & Mercier Promesse
The Promesse, keep a promise
One of the trademarks of traditional Swiss watch manufacturer Baume & Mercier, by now existing for 184 years is the so called shape watch. Inspired by its signature item the brand introduced the ladies collection Promesse in July 2014. Replacing the regular round shape of the case, several of the Promesse models provide rather oval designs. Taking up traditional spirits of Geneva watch making masters who have more than once successfully managed to connect the classic to the modern trend. In the process of merging both lines the iconic oval cases by Baume & Mercier clearly make their contribution. After all there is a promise, as the frech title “Promesse” translates, to keep. Certainly not a big deal to the engineers, as multiple of the best-known models of highly complex complication originate from their own manufacture. Like all other ladies’ collections by Baume & Mercier this one pursues the very same purpose of enhancing its wearer’s elegance and personality.
The Promesse, in shape and style
As already mentioned several of the 14 Promesse models provide cases of oval shape, visually stressed by offset plates. The dial made of mother-of-pearl or sunburst features Roman numbers at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock perfectly fitting hands in size and color. As a matter of course a ladies’ watch may not be missing on diamonds. Therefore most of the ladies’ models won’t lack in opulence and offer brilliancy right upon the bezel. In case of desire for distraction from the dial, a sapphire glass back, as incorporated in the automatic model, reveals the hidden secrets of Swiss movements. If not so much into the insight of mechanics the lady might instead be interested in size: the selective diameter of cases is at either 30 mm or 34 mm. Once more Baume & Mercier proves itself in the world of watches by succeeding in constantly reinventing itself without losing sight of its signature style. Not only in this particular case is has clearly lived up to its promise.
